bracu-beximco-visitDepartment of Pharmacy, BRAC University has also organized an industrial visit to Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd. for the students of a third year on 29th October 2015. BEXIMCO Pharmaceuticals is one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Bangladesh, accounting for manufacturing about half of the pharmaceutical products of Bangladesh. The students were escorted by two faculty members Ashis Podder and Najneen Ahmed along with Pritesh Ranjan Dash, Teaching Assistant, Department of Pharmacy who guided and explained to them about the processing of pharmaceutical products at various stages of the visit to the pharmaceutical plant.

During the visit, the day started with the presentation of the HR Department (Human Resource Department) of BEXIMCO Pharmaceuticals highlighting mainly the growth, status, accomplishments, future projects, achievements, and key milestones of the company. Although the company specializes in manufacturing almost every possible dosage form starting from tablets, capsules, inhalers, eye drops, ointments, syrup, suspension, and nasal spray to lyophilized injectable products and oral soluble films, the visit was primarily held in the MDI (Metered Dose Inhaler) (track 2) sector. Apart from this department, the students also had the opportunity to visit different departments and sections of the industry like- Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Dispensing, Manufacturing, Packaging, Warehouse sections, etc. Additionally, they had the opportunity to watch the manufacturing of oral solid dosage and IV products from quite a distance as it was a completely sterilized area.

All the products of the plant are manufactured as per the regulatory guidelines of the FDA. The various large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment and their applications were also keenly observed by the students. This enabled the students to correlate their theory with practical application in the pharmaceutical manufacturing field. The officials at BEXIMCO Pharmaceuticals were also very impressed with the curiosity of students to learn the subject. They tried to answer every question that they had asked. The head of the HR department hoped to see the students working in their factory in the near future. Later on, the students had the opportunity to have lunch with the head of the HR department in the executive cafeteria. The students were very happy and felt enriched after visiting the manufacturing plant.

The purpose of organizing these visits is to make the students get an idea about the industrial work and manufacturing process from a practical point of view. It also helps the students to make their studies interesting as they can observe the things they study from their theory books.
