Pharma fest held at NSU

North South University (NSU) Pharmacy Club organized the “Pharma Fest 2014” at the NSU campus in Bashundhara in the capital on Tuesday.

The theme for this year’s program “The Pursuit of MedicalUtopia” was chosen to focus on how far the pharmacy and health care industry has arrived and how far yet to go in ensuring a disease-free Bangladesh. The program comprised a pharma and herbal exhibition, pharma olympiad, display of pharma machinery, free blood pressure, blood sugar, dental check-up, and poster presentation. Leading pharmaceutical and herbal companies, hospitals, and reputed public and private institutions from home and abroad attended the event.

Corporate stalls of pharmaceutical companies, herbal companies, and healthcare agencies introduced their products at the event at the same time, the other stalls were engaged in demonstrating their scientific projects in the battle of creativity combated by the students of the Department of Pharmaceutical Science of NSU.

The key feature of this festival included the pharma olympiad followed by poster sessions, an exhibition, blood donation, free dental check-ups, and a display of pharma machinery.

Seven teams participated from 5 renowned universities–North South, East West, Asia Pacific, Stamford, and Daffodil–in Pharma Olympiad. Where top 2 winners were awarded a cash prize of Tk 25,000 as 1st prize and Tk 15,000 as 2nd prize.  Students exhibited posters on the topic of “Drug Discovery & Drug Delivery” at the exposition.

Free test and discounted vaccination for cervical cancer and Hepatitis B was sponsored by GSK.

This unique medical and healthcare event offered significant mileage to healthcare industries and institutions. The festival was the right place to achieve fundamental objectives and set up or reinforce the basis of success for young, upcoming pharmacists. (Source: the independent)
