Bangladeshi, Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers sign MOU for cooperation

Bangladeshi and Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreeing to supplement each other’s initiatives to exploit their full potential as an international Pharmaceuticals exposition was underway in the city.

Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (BAPI) signed the MoU with the Indian Pharmaceutical Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (IPMMA) on the sidelines of the 8th Asia Pharma Expo at the Basundhara International Convention City on 28th January 2016.

BAPI Secretary General M Shafiuzzaman and IPMMA President Mahendra Mehta inked the deal while Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla witnessed the event.

“The pharmaceuticals sector represented an area of high growth for both countries,” an Indian high commission statement quoted the envoy as saying.

It said the high commissioner congratulated the two Associations and encouraged them to “fully exploit the complementarities and linkages existing between India and Bangladesh to the fullest potential”.

He also assured support of the High Commission in furthering cooperation in the pharmaceuticals sector.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed earlier on January 28 opened the expo saying the government would provide cash incentives to the pharmaceutical industry for exporting medicine in larger volumes.

BAPI organized the three-day fair titled “8th Asia Pharma Expo-2016” while 400 pharmaceutical companies from 80 countries took part in the fair. (Source: BSS)
